The flow of immigrants and emigrants is an important factor in economic activity. The demand for housing and basic necessities of life fuels economic activity.  Transporting families and their furniture is a significant business.   The natural increase in the population through family formation and the birth of children adds demand for baby food, diapers, and toys among other things.
